Founded in March 2023, Local Community Patrol is designed to ensure the safety of our community during rush hours in Avenue U, Sheepshead Bay, Kings Highway, Neck Road, subway stations, subway, and public schools.
Starting in June 2024, LCP is expanding its reach to Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.
This is a collaborative effort between volunteers and local merchants, who will assist the patrol during their business hours. This partnership will help us to ensure the safety of our community members, while also supporting local businesses.
The safety of our volunteers is of utmost importance to us. Therefore, we have implemented various tactics to minimize any potential risks. Our volunteers will receive training to help them identify and report any potential threats. Additionally, we will work closely with the local police department to ensure that our volunteers are safe while carrying out their duties.
To ensure the safety of our volunteers and community members, we are equipping a radio for each patrol groups. This will allow for communication between volunteers and our center, where a designated person will monitor everyone's location. This will enable us to act quickly in the event of an emergency and ensure that all volunteers are safe at all times. According to 61 Precinct, the crime rate on Ave U has decreased comparing to 2022.
